Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig September 21 1983) is an American actress, best well-known for her role as Shannon Rutherford on the ABC television show Lost as well as Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Maggie Grace was born in Worthington in Ohio. She was kicked out of high school after her parents split up to move into Los Angeles to live with her mother. The year 2001 was a difficult one for her, but despite difficulties with money she managed to secure her first big performance in the video online series Rachel's Room as the principal character. The TV film Murder in Greenwich where she played a 15-year-old Martha Moxley earned her the nomination for a Young Artist Award. Grace Rutherford played the lead actor in Lost for its first two seasons. In 2004, she was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award with all of the ensemble. Grace was keen to pursue film following her role as Tom Welling's character in The Fog, in 2005. She is part of the Gyllenhaal clan as well as the younger sister of Jake Gyllenhaal. The career of her mother began when she was a young teenager when she appeared in small parts in a few films directed from her father. In addition, she was a part of her brother in the 2001 popular film Donnie Darko. The year 2002 saw her starred as a character on Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. She also appeared on Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal was praised by critics for her performances as the lead in Secretary (2002 an erotic romantic drama), and Sherrybaby (606), both of which garnered the actress Golden Globe Award nods. Following several commercially-successful films, including World Trade Center in 2006 her name was recognized more widely when she played Rachel Dawes (the superhero) in The Dark Knight (2007). She was nominated for the award of Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her portrayal of a single mother on screen in Crazy Heart. She subsequently starred in the comedies and dramas: Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang (2010) Hysteria (2011) and The Won't Back Down (2012). The other roles she's played includes Secret Service agents in White House Down (2013 Action thriller) and actors in Frank (2014, drama The Kindergarten Teacher 2018) in addition to her role as the Kindergarten teacher. In 2021, Gyllenhaal was able to make her writing and directed debut in the psychological drama The Lost Daughter for which she won the Venice International Film Festival's Best Screenplay Award and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
